ABOUT

"When I draw, the world around me vanishes. Time loses its essence and the worldly feelings of hunger, thirst or cold are not relevant any longer."
My name is Tova Zinger, born in 1958, in Be'er-Sheva.
I am a mother to Maya and Shai, a grandmother to four magical granddaughters:
Alma, Morgan, Ariel and Naomi.
My small family is my anchor.

I am a daughter to holocaust survivors; most of our family was wiped out during the holocaust.
Both my parents and my younger brother aren't alive anymore.

I am an UC (urgent care) / ICU nurse by trade, I have always dreamed to become a nurse.
Being a nurse is my essence and my calling. For twenty years it has been my privilege to be a nurse,
ease and wear the pain of the patients in the unit, listen to them, show them empathy and accompany the patients and their families.
I was hurt in an accident that caused my life to stop. I lost my essence and was thrown in a black hole of depression.
As I coped, I endured a series of family traumas that escalated the hardships.
Later I was bound to a wheel chair. My hands were also hurt and I lost a decent part of my independence that was important and vital to me a great deal.
Alma, my granddaughter of light (light granddaughter – יכול גם להיות נכדה קלה מבחינת משקל), asked me to draw her a unicorn that will protect her at night. And from here on, a new world of colours opened before me, one that was unfamiliar but thrilling.
An innocent plea, planted the seed of choice in my life and later I realised that from the seed grew a strong tree.
The brush found me entirely by chance and drew me from my darkest depths of pain and depression.

Today I am an intuitive artist, I draw in an abstract and expressionist style, using many techniques.
I lecture about my journey of choosing life.
I am an instructor in experiential masterclasses, this way I help you pass a conscious change that will remind the body of its healing abilities with the help of intuitive drawing.

What painting means to me

Painting for me is therapy, it is serenity. It is diving into the deep worlds of the mind, the subconscious and the soul. Painting cleanses my spirit, purifies it and heals it.
I have had difficult and challenging years, and days when I did not want to get up in the morning, that I wished for death. Until the paint brush found me and helped me reinvent myself.
While I am painting I am fully immersed in the artwork, unaware of the reality beyond it; till someone wakes me and disconnects me from this wonderful world, and I return to the here and now.
My painting is intuitive abstract expressionism - no painting is exactly like the other.
The painting springs from me with no advanced planning, starts off at the current emotional point and continues according to the internal intuition of that moment.
The work of art then grows on its own, the paintbrush dips in paint and travels the paper on its own path, and the colors merge with each other and create newfound liveliness.
And I am like a spectator, watching from the side as the painting is being born, and I am once again surprised, every time.
Painting is so significant in my life, that if human constraints did not force me to do other things, I would paint non-stop.
I do not name my paintings, so they are not reduced to one meaning or
interpretation.
Anyone can find within a painting his own story and the layer in which the painting touches his soul.

What is intuitive abstract expressionism?

Expressionism is projected from the inner world of the artist, from his or her subjective feelings. Painting in this manner comes from the spirit and the soul, through the subconscious. It gives emotional and spiritual expression to the inner processes taking place in the depths of the artist soul and mind.
The paintings describe the artist’s feelings and emotions and are not influenced by thought.
Such paintings do not express reality but recreate it with the power of the paintbrush. The colors are chosen by emotion alone, and the hand moves on its own, and creates infinite magic which is not constrained by the laws of reality nor the laws of nature.
Emotions emerging from the depth of the soul are reborn on the canvas and tell their own story.
They allow an emergence from the pain, to soar out of difficulties
and to give the soul the freedom to speak.
Aspirations, dreams, old and new love come to life on the canvas; with vibrant or tranquil colors, with a soft hum or a tumultuous outburst.

An abstract expressionist painting which is drawn intuitively is growth, is freedom.
The paintings touch upon the emotions and offer intuitive and sensual enjoyment.
Every person viewing the painting sees his own personal story in it, coming from the depth of his soul.
